In Nigeria today, admission into Tertiary Institutions, especially universities is becoming more competitive. One of the reasons for this is that the spaces in our universities are small compared to the number of applicants. For about 5 years running, the average applicants to our universities stood at about 1,000,000 (One million) per year with less than one-fifth of this finally getting placements into the universities of their choices!
Many thanks to Nigerian Government for giving licenses to private individuals to establish universities, all in the bid to provide more spaces for intending students. As good as this is, no one can claim the admission challenge has been put behind us. It therefore means that our universities are only meant for the few ones who can study hard to pass their UME.
At the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, the idea of Online Pre-Exam Testing came to mind as we were pondering on how to help our teaming youths overcome this great challenge and achieve their life's dream. Our ultimate goal is for as many that attempt this to pass the Entrance Exam and subsequently their UME without tears to eventually get placement into the universities of their choices.
